LILITH'S RETURN
A musical drama about the return of a rebelEven before God created Eve, he created Lilith. A test person in the process of developing the perfect wife. Lilith was supposed to be melted down again. But the awkward creature walks away, is cast out by the shining lights, but then one day comes back from her exile.
In the text by the Arab author Joumana Haddad, the mythological figure turns into a young woman who goes against all expectations. She explores bodies and sexuality and wants to stand up for herself. A rebel who provokes and demands her rights. The text takes on its own meaning in the interpretation by three actors with Down's Syndrome. To them, Lilith stands for the self-assertion of someone who is different, out of place, and often rejected as well.
In the piece, the realities of young women in Beirut and Berlin meet and provide mutual illumination. The composition by Mahmoud Turkmani combines elements of modern western music with the oriental tradition of improvisation.
